Page Ranch Bridge repairs increase capacity, fire engine access; Pinto Road temporary closure

DIXIE NATIONAL FOREST – Pinto Road in the Pine Valley Ranger District area of Dixie National Forest, also known as Forest Road 009, will be temporarily closed beginning Tuesday to replace the Page Ranch Bridge.

The bridge currently has a broken stringer, which severely limits the size of vehicles that can cross it. The U.S. Forest Service will replace the existing structure with a cast-in-place double-barrel box culvert.

Replacing the bridge will allow for safe passage of large vehicles, such as wildland fire engines to access the communities and terrain, using the most direct route from Cedar City,” Pine Valley District Ranger Randy Beckstrand said. “The safety of employees and visitors to the Dixie National Forest remains our (first) priority.”

Construction crews will be working on repairs from late August to the first week of November, if all goes according to schedule. The section of Pinto Road near the bridge will be closed during this period, as construction conditions will render it unsafe for travel. The community of Pinto will be accessible from New Castle, Pine Valley or state Route-18.

For more information about the project or updates on access along Pinto Road, contact the Dixie National Forest at 435-865-3700 or the Pine Valley Ranger District at 435-652-3100.
