ST. GEORGE – A St. George man was arrested for multiple counts of burglary Monday.
Police received a call from a residence in the area of 2300 West 1700 North that had been burglarized, St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said. A door had been forced open and the suspect stole items from the home and the vehicle parked in the garage. Among these items were credit cards.
Following the burglary, police received notice that one of the stolen credit cards was used at an ATM. Surveillance video from the ATM was reviewed and used to identify Leroy Kavea, 20, of St. George, as the alleged perpetrator, Despain said.
Police contacted and interviewed Kavea. Based on the interview and investigation up to that point, Kavea was arrested and booked into the county jail Monday afternoon.
Kavea faces four second-degree felony counts of burglary of a dwelling, one third-degree felony count of unlawful possession of a finance card, and four misdemeanor charges related to criminal mischief, vehicle burglary and finance card theft. Bail currently stands at $50,042.
Noting the multiple felony burglary counts, Despain said, “We believe this is not the first time he has committed a residential burglary.” Kavea was charged accordingly, he said.
Ed. Note: Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
