Antique car overturns on SR-9 turns fatal

SOUTHERN UTAH – The Utah Highway Patrol reported that four people were injured when their car, an antique 1915 Model T Ford, was involved in an accident on state Route 9 at milepost 52 Friday morning.

According to a statement from the UHP, the accident occurred at 10:20 a.m. The car was traveling westbound and was pulling over to the right shoulder to allow traffic to pass. At this time the right front wheel of the car went off the pavement and its wooden spokes came apart, causing the car to overturn. The four people riding in the car were ejected.

Three of the car’s occupants were taken to Kane County Hospital. The extent of their injuries has not yet been reported.

The fourth occupant, a 51-year-old woman, was listed in critical condition and Life Flight was called in to airlift her to the hospital. UHP reported the woman died due to her injuries by early afternoon.

Notification has been made to the fatal passenger’s husband, who was on scene in a different vehicle.

The car’s license plate, and its occupants, are each from Minnesota.

So sorry for the loss. Horrible accident. Wooden spokes? That sounds like a VERY old car.
