Task force arrest Washington woman for drug distribution

ST. GEORGE – A Washington woman was arrested by the Washington County Drug Task Force Wednesday for drug distribution and other charges.

The task force, aided by the St. George Police SWAT team, executed a search warrant at a St. George residence near 100 South and 400 East Wednesday afternoon, St. George Police Capt. Kyle Whitehead said.

Previous investigation has pointed to the home being a place where alleged drug-related activity has occurred. As well, some individuals who the task force has deemed potentially armed and dangerous have also allegedly visited the residences on occasion. This is the reason the SWAT team was called in to assist with the search warrant, Whitehead said.

The task force searched the home and detained four adult men and one adult woman. The task force also detained Melanie Nicole Matheson, 32, of Washington, who attempted to leave in a car prior to the task force’s arrival, but was stopped. Her name was specific to the warrant for the home, Whitehead said.

The home was searched and drug paraphernalia was allegedly located. A search warrant for Matheson’s car was issued and the task force found items alleged to be packets of methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a firearm. The drugs and paraphernalia were able to be tied to Matheson, Whitehead said.

Matheson was arrested and booked into jail on charges of first-degree felony drug distribution, third-degree felony weapons offense, and two drug-related misdemeanors. Bail currently stands at $28,886.

Whitehead said additional arrests may yet be forthcoming as the investigation surrounding suspected activity at the home continues.

The five individuals detained at the home were not arrested.
