Lee calls for defunding of ObamaCare in next spending bill

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, Sen. Mike Lee responded to the Obama administration’s announcement that it would selectively enforce certain areas of ObamaCare; he said:

Delaying the employer mandate and exchange verification rules is the latest and most damning admission by the administration that ObamaCare was poorly crafted, remains unworkable, and, if implemented, will hurt American families, businesses, and our economy. The only solution is to fully repeal ObamaCare and start over with a more sensible, practical approach to fix our health care system.

Short of full repeal, however, those of us who care about the health care and security of the American people still have a duty to act. If the president has decided he won’t enforce his law as it is written, then Congress should not fund any further implementation of it at all.

It is fundamentally unfair for President Obama to exempt businesses from the onerous burdens of his law, while forcing American families and individuals into ObamaCare’s unsound and unstable system.

This administration has chosen to put its own political preferences and the interests of various government cronies ahead of the American people. Republicans in Congress must now stand up for the individuals and families who do not have the money, lobbyists, and connections to get this Administration’s attention.

And we should do so using one of the few constitutional powers Congress still guards – its power of the purse. As long as President Obama selectively enforces ObamaCare, no annual appropriations bill or continuing resolution should fund further implementation of the law.

Last week’s admission by the administration means that after three years of preparation and trial and error, the best case scenario for Obamacare will be rampant dysfunction, waste, and injustice to taxpayers and working families.

If congressional Democrats want to oppose appropriations bills without additional ObamaCare funding, shut down the government, and side with the President and big business against the American people, then it’s their choice. But three years in, even the president himself has now admitted that ObamaCare won’t work. The only responsible choice now is to protect the country from ObamaCare’s looming disaster, start over and finally begin work on real health care reform.

    Senator Lee,
What are your suggestions to help take care of the millions of Americans who work full time, pay their taxes but can not afford health insurance?

My friend has breast cancer but can not have anything done to help her because she works a full time job, pays her bills and does not have anything left for the doctor or the procedure she needs. Maybe if she quit her job and went on Welfare she would get help but probably not even then because she doe not have small children in the home so she can not get on Welfare.

    Any suggestions Senator?

A perfect example of why we need some form of federalized medical care. If it makes the GOP feel better, lets call it Patriot Care Act…maybe then they’ll shut up long enough to do the math. Caring for the uninsured has bankrupted enough private hospitals, nationwide, that even if you can find someone to treat you it might be difficult to locate a local inner-city (specialty) provider. We have nothing but county funded hospitals left in the congested areas, so in essence, we already have government funded (medicaid) medicine. Call it whatever you like, we’re already there people and you’re property taxes are paying for it.

He makes perfect sense to me. He’s Republican and Mormon end of story.

  • Bender July 9, 2013 at 7:40 pm

Don’t look to the Tea Party for any help with the health care crisis Cathy. These lugnuts moved the party so far right that no republican dares make a move to help. What the far right derisively calls Obamacare is the same market based approach that the Republicans themselves proposed 10 years ago. Short of nationalized health care the only workable solution to broader coverage is to force more of the population into the insurance pool, exactly what Obama care achieves. The loons on the far right can only scream socialism and “don’t tread on me”.
    .
There might be room for debate on this issue if the Republicans had anything approaching an alternative. They don’t.
    .
I wish there was a place for me in the Republican party. Short of lobotomizing myself I can only remain an independent.

I think the biggest problem about Obamacare is the way it got passed into law, the fact that noone could read the whole law until it was passed and the way the wording about the individual mandate tax was conveniently changed to get it to be declared constitutional. I think if it was as good as you seem to think it is then all the deception it took to put it into law wouldnt have needed to happen.

    • San July 14, 2013 at 8:39 am

The text of most law is not fleshed out until after the hearing process has ended, so it’s not uncommon that text wasn’t available. The debates only touched on funding and the macro view. That’s what people are stuck on. At the end of the day, it’s about civil rights and protection against communicable disease.

Another Latter Day Teapublican from the Bee Hine State. He sits up there with his fantastic health plan and the heck with you and your petty problems.

  • Karen July 10, 2013 at 6:35 am

So, Mike Lee calls for defunding Obamacare? I call on Mike Lee to resign from the Senate. He is an embarrassment to Utah and the most ineffective Senator that has ever represented this great state.

    • Steamer July 10, 2013 at 8:21 am

Senator Lee is just one in a string of embarrassments to Utah. He was ‘elected’ in a political maneuver by the Tea Party to oust Bennett, who was known to vote his own mind. Lee is right up there with the ongoing investigations of AG Swallow and the Lt. Governor, Senator Hatch, (poster boy for term limits), straight-ticket voting and the Zion Curtain! Conservative Republicans make no secret of their assault on women’s rights, gays, immigration reform and everything the Democrats put forth. Lee’s job in the Senate is to obstruct and disrupt the work of congress. Utah has every right to be embarrassed!

  • Fred July 10, 2013 at 8:42 am

This so called “BarryCare” is illegal anyway. It is unconstitutional and signed into law by an illegal President. So who cares.

What about the Sheriff Arpillo and Detective Mike Zullo investigation into the birth certificate FRAUD?

And Holder is still in office. Unbelievable.

    • Ken July 10, 2013 at 10:19 am

Awww poor Fred! Since you have serious issues why not renounce your citizenship and leave the country? Facts don’t align to your thinking only manufactured speculation and rumors. So check on out of the US and you will be a much happier person!!

    • Chris July 10, 2013 at 9:29 pm

Do you mean Sheriff Arpaio? I suspect so. If you cannot get his named spelled correctly, I cannot believe that you can get the details of anything correct. Arpaio’s “investigation” did not turn up a shred of evidence to support his ridiculous “birther” arguments. Anyone who questions the birthplace of Barack Obama is clearly a moron. Unfortunately, we have many morons in this country.

  • Alvin July 10, 2013 at 10:38 am

Sen. Lee’s comments make sense. It would be nice for the government to take care of all our needs, but it is not practical and also not what the role of government is anyways. It’s also not something that they can handle on the administrative end either. They’ve proven that with all of their other depts. and misuse of power, funds, etc… The Supreme court blew it with their decision and the Affordable (ha!) Health Care Act should have never been put in place. Yes, something needs to be implemented to be available to all for health care needs, but the further away the government is the better the results will be.

  • Fred July 10, 2013 at 12:56 pm

    Ken

Why did your so called “leader” SEAL all of his records? What is this guy hiding?

  • Tom July 10, 2013 at 11:51 pm

    Fred,
What proof do you have that Obama sealed or concealed anything anymore than other President, and what was every other previous President hiding? If you can’t carry on an intelligent discourse, than just throw some tea… shtuff against the wall and maybe you will convince someone out there that you know something.
    Ed. ellipsis

  • Ken July 11, 2013 at 1:22 pm

I never voted for him Fred, but what is very clear is that you lack any facts to support your position that has been gone over an over for many many years. Just like Sheriff Joe you just babble and try to baffle with BS!!!

  • Fred July 11, 2013 at 1:46 pm

    Ken

As usual your side continues to use Alinsky methods to ridicule someone and call names instead of sticking to the facts.

    Look at:

    http://www.thepostemail.com/

    http://giveusliberty1776.blogspot.com/

    http://obamareleaseyourrecords.blogspot.com/

    http://www.orlytaitzesq.com/

It also looks like Chris also used Alinsky methods. Call names, put down someone who raises serious constitutional issues and use ridicule. The truth is coming out. There will be a congressional investigation over this.

    • Chris July 11, 2013 at 7:38 pm

If there were the remotest chance that the “birther” nonsense could be true, Republicans in Congress would have already launched an investigation. Yet, there have been none (and none are planned) because even the most partisan Republican knows that there is nothing to this. The issue only persists on crackpot websites like those you cite.

  • Randy T July 11, 2013 at 4:17 pm

    FRED,

May I suggest that when you’re trying to convey ‘facts’, you should probably link people to ACTUAL fact based sites. No wonder the right doesn’t actually know any real facts, I mean when you are trying to quote “facts” from sites like “obamoreleaseyourrecords”???? ahaha.. Nobody is going to take you seriously Fred…

  • Fred July 11, 2013 at 6:35 pm

Maybe I should to to CNN, Media Matters, Moveon.org or other “factual” sites. Ha Ha.

Nice try Mr. Alinsky Method. You forgot to call me a racist. That is the usual method. But that does not work anymore.

  • Fred July 11, 2013 at 10:34 pm

    For Randy, Chris and Ken:

    Good news for you guys:

    http://www.sonorannews.com/archives/2013/130710/news-obama-fraud.html

  • Jeff July 13, 2013 at 9:04 pm

Fred, as I was reading the above attacks on your comment, I realized that the Alinsky crew was at it on this site. This was before I continued to see that you did eventually call them out on it. It’s laughable how transparent they are becoming.
The frauds that make themselves appear as typical readers are nothing but criminal scum. No worries though, Fred, I’m there with you.. and there are a hell of a lot of us waking up.
    (tips hat.)

  • Bender July 13, 2013 at 11:54 pm

Visiting hours are over Fred and Jeff. Shuffle back to your rooms. The nurse will be by shortly with your pills.

  • Fred July 14, 2013 at 6:43 am

    Thanks Jeff.

I shut them down. Truth will prevail.

    • Chris July 14, 2013 at 3:34 pm

The only thing you have shut down is your own credibility. Your link to the Sonoran news proves nothing. It only shows that Arpaio (yes I can get his name right) and Zullo are in Washington trying to get someone to pay attention to them. Zullo’s quote that “these things take time” is quite laughable. After the Benghazi incident, Darrell Issa had a full-blown congressional investigation up and running in a couple days. So why is this taking years? Because anyone with any credibility is ignoring Arpaio and Zullo.

  • Fred July 14, 2013 at 2:18 pm

Hello Bender of the Facts (There they go again Alinsky)

At least the nurse will not have any SEALED RECORDS or did not spend millions to hide her past and also she or he will not have a Birth Certificate that is a FRAUD.

  • Fred July 14, 2013 at 7:38 pm

    Chris

Tell me who is this man?
