Red Cross, upcoming action film ‘Pacific Rim’ partner to boost blood donations

SALT LAKE CITY – The American Red Cross and “Pacific Rim” encourage all eligible blood donors to celebrate the release of this summer’s much-anticipated sci-fi action-adventure film by boosting the nation’s blood supply.

Through July 31, all blood donors are encouraged to enter to win a trip to Hollywood and VIP tour for two at Warner Bros. Studios.

“They may not outwardly seem as heroic as the robot pilots in ‘Pacific Rim,’ but when blood donors roll up a sleeve, they help give someone another chance at life,” said Darren Irby, executive director, donor and sponsor marketing for the Red Cross. “To the Red Cross and the patients they help, these donors are a lifesaving force to be reckoned with.”

Call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit the Red Cross website to make an appointment to donate blood or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card, driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Adults 18 and older who weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. Minors, with parental consent, also have to meet certain age, height and weight requirements to be eligible.

The St. George branch of the Red Cross, located at 476 East Riverside Drive, can be contacted at 435-674-4440.
