ST. GEORGE – Dixie State University recently announced the appointment of Dr. Eric Pedersen as DSU’s new dean of science and technology. Pedersen will assume his new role on July 1, replacing the retiring Dr. Victor Hasfurther, who has served in that capacity for the past five years.
Pedersen has served as a faculty member at DSU since 1989 and is currently a professor of visual technologies and information technology. He teaches e-commerce, web development and tech entrepreneurship, in addition to creating a bi-monthly technology and entrepreneurship lecture series. Pedersen has also held numerous leadership roles on campus; he was director of the institution’s business and development resource center from 1989 to 1994, director of the center of excellence for computer graphics and served as dean of continuing education from 1994 to 1997.
“I am looking forward to continuing to foster and encourage the innovation in science and technology here at DSU,” Pedersen said. “We have incredibly talented students and faculty here and I cannot wait to collaborate on new projects and ventures with them.”
Pedersen received a doctorate in management information systems at Utah State University and also holds degrees in business, economics and Spanish. In addition to his academic career, he is a successful entrepreneur. Pedersen directed a research team that developed and launched the first Utah website in 1993 and co-founded InfoWest, the first regional internet service provider in Southern Utah, along with several other tech companies and businesses.
