Lee remarks on NSA intrusion into phone records

WASHINGTON D.C. — Sen. Mike Lee released the following statement Thursday in response to the National Security Agency’s surveillance of Americans’ Verizon phone records:

“I am deeply disturbed by reports that the FISA Court issued an extremely broad order requiring Verizon turn over to the National Security Agency on a daily basis the company’s metadata on its customers’ calls.  Under this secret court order, millions of innocent Americans have been subject to government surveillance.

“The Fourth Amendment safeguards liberty by protecting against government abuse of power. Overzealous law enforcement, even when well-intended, carries grave risks to Americans’ privacy and liberty.  Members of Congress cannot continue to grant broad discretion to government agents and not expect these types of troubling outcomes.  The abuses resulting from this court order illustrate the reasons why I have opposed, and continue to oppose, controversial provisions of the PATRIOT Act and the FISA Amendments Act that are inconsistent with the Fourth Amendment.”

Even though the phone records scam has come to light, I believe it is much, much deeper than that. Over the last 10 years or so, there has been a big push regarding going digital and having “all” information on a computer somwhere. So, I think it is safe to say that everything we have done up to now, including me typing , is being stored somewhere. All bank transactions(direct deposit), medical info, emails(Hotmail and Gmail especially), internet shopping, anything that you sign in with a so called “secure” password is currently stored somewhere. This last week has left the american public with a feeling of being violated to the highest order by the government. This behavior is disgusting and needs to stop! The comments of giving up freedoms to keep me safer is not acceptable anymore. The next step will be total arrogance by the USA government regarding all the scams they have been caught with. It will happen soon, probably is a week or so. They will announce “So What!” and “Just what are you going to do about it!” and then go on with their business as they thumb their noses at Congress, Senate and most importantly, the public. We are at the tipping point of the pride cycle for our government, things will get very strange from here on out. Note to all conspiracy theorists, Yep! it’s all true, and there is much more yet to follow.
