• Affected area: Castle Country, San Rafael swell, Sanpete / Sevier Valleys, west-central Utah, Southwest Utah, Utah’s Dixie and Zion National Park, south-central Utah, Glen Canyon Recreation Area / Lake Powell, and the cities of Price, Castle Dale, Emery, Green River, Hanksville, Manti, Richfield, Delta, Fillmore, Beaver, Cedar City, Milford, St. George, Kanab, Escalante and Bullfrog.

Winds: South to southwest winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 55 mph.

• Timing: Winds will increase throughout the morning and will remain strong and gusty this afternoon into this evening.

Impacts: Travelers in high profile vehicles in these areas may experience strong crosswinds, particularly on est-west routes, including U.S. Highway 89 from Kanab to Lake Powell and Interstate 70.

In addition, boaters on area lakes, including Lake Powell, should be prepared for rough chop.

Precautionary/preparedness actions: A wind advisory means that sustained wind speeds of at least 31 mph or gusts of 45 mph are expected.

Motorists in the advisory area should be prepared for sudden gusty crosswinds which can make driving difficult.

Strong winds may create dangerous boating conditions on area lakes. These winds will create very choppy water and generate large waves which could capsize or swamp small craft.
