CEDAR CITY — Phillip Peine, managing partner of HintonBurdick CPAs & Advisors, announced today that Jim and Jan Wilson have received a call to preside over the newly created California Bakersfield Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The partners at HintonBurdick, Peine said, wish to recognize and thank Jim Wilson for his long and successful career in public accounting and will host an open house in his honor for clients and associations of his on May 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the firm’s Cedar City offices, 239 South Main. A light lunch buffet will be served.
Call to mission
After graduating from Brigham Young University, Jim Wilson was employed with Price Waterhouse for three years in Los Angeles in the 1970s. In 1978 he and his wife moved to Cedar City to work with a smaller firm. Through a progression of positions over the ensuing years, Jim Wilson formed his own firm which he ultimately merged with HintonBurdick in 2008.
The call to mission is for three years, after which Jim Wilson said he expects he and his wife will definitely return to Cedar City.
“These calls come from the first presidency of the LDS church,” he said, “we certainly had no idea it was coming. We were extended the call in February and of course accepted the chance to go and serve. … Our family is excited about it and so are we.”
The Wilsons’ youngest son was married a few weeks ago so their children are all out of the house, leaving the Wilsons to serve as president and wife of the California Bakersfield Mission with full expectations of receiving frequent visits from their children.
The territory encompassed by the new mission, while headquartered in Bakersfield, includes Lancaster, Palmdale, and Ridgecrest clear up to Bishop, he said.
Career with HintonBurdick
HintonBurdick has left the door open to him to return to the firm at that time, Jim Wilson said, although he is not decided on what will come for him and his wife then other than returning to Cedar City.
“Throughout his accounting career Jim’s primary focus has been to consistently provide clients the highest level of service and expertise,” Hinton Burdick’s announcement stated. “He has earned the trust and regard of his loyal clientele and accounting associates who know him for his attention to detail and integrity. … His expertise and skill will be greatly missed throughout the southern Utah business community.
With offices in St. George, Cedar City, Hurricane, Richfield, Mesquite, Nev., and Flagstaff, Ariz., HintonBurdick’s announcement stated it is committed to continue Jim’s legacy of client service.
