Hatch, Lee speak out on allegations of IRS unfairly targeting conservative groups

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, Sens. Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee spoke out on the allegations that the Internal Revenue Service has been unfairly targeting conservative groups that applied for tax-exempt status.

Lee released the following statement:

“I am deeply troubled by reports that the IRS targeted certain conservative groups for political purposes. Americans of all political backgrounds are rightfully calling for a thorough investigation to find out who was directing this effort, and for the individuals involved to be held accountable. Concerns regarding this shameful abuse of power transcend partisan differences. This should not be dismissed as just another conflict between left and right; it is a conflict between the federal government and the American people, who — regardless of their political leanings — should be free to exercise their constitutionally protected rights without fear of political retribution from the world’s most powerful tax-collection agency.  We need to find out how this happened, why the underlying facts remained concealed until now, and what we can do to prevent the increasingly powerful IRS from targeting any group or individual based on political ideology.”

Hatch, a ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, wrote to Finance Committee Chairman Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., to request a committee hearing and bipartisan investigation into the allegations. The full text of the letter can be found here.

Thinking of Hatch and Lee together gives me visuals of two old male dogs sniffing each other. Why don’t these obstructionists do something constructive for this country instead of obstructive and/or possibly destructive? Why don’t they both retire and go sniff each other?

I like both of them but hope this is not just a show to pacify conservatives. Like John McCain and Romney did when they ran against Barry.

It is. What have they produced since Obama was elected? Nothing, just their anti-Obama ramblings. Must be great to make a bundle of money and all you have to do is rant against someone.
