ST. GEORGE – The Utah Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing a 15-block segment of pavement on St. George Boulevard (state Route 34) Monday.
The preventative maintenance project on St. George Boulevard extends from 1000 East to Bluff Street and is expected to take three to four days to complete.
To apply a protective microsurface, UDOT has contracted with Geneva Rock Products, Inc.; according to UDOT’s project details webpage, construction contract cost is $242,726, project value is $328,016, $13, 360 has been expended for preliminary engineering and construction management as of April 30.
Pavement work will take place at night between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m.
Overnight traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction and crossing streets will be closed at intersections for up to one hour to allow proper cure time for the sealing process. Businesses open during the evening may experience access closures of up to 30 minutes.
The contractor anticipates the following construction schedule:
Monday, May 13
Crews, beginning at 8 p.m., will place lane leveling on about 200 feet of roadway near the intersections of 200 East and 400 East.
Tuesday – Thursday, May 14-16
The microsurfacing of all lanes, including turning lanes, will be completed in sections moving from one end of the project to the other. All paving will take place between the hours of 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. with one lane of traffic in each direction remaining open during resurfacing work.
Saturday – Monday, May 18-20
Between 9 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. Monday, construction on valves and manholes may cause temporary lane restrictions.
New street markings will be installed following a curing period for the new surface. Dates and times are subject to change dependent on weather.
