Wind advisory for Utah’s Dixie and Zion National Park

SOUTHERN UTAH – The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a wind advisory which is in effect from 8 p.m. this evening to 10 a.m. Tuesday.

• Affected area: Utah’s Dixie and Zion National Park particularly in areas downwind of north to south oriented canyons, and the City of St. George area.

• Winds: North to northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph.

• Timing: Strong and gusty winds will develop this evening across Utah’s Dixie particularly in areas downwind of north to south oriented canyons. Winds will continue into Tuesday morning before diminishing.

• Impacts: High profile vehicles may experience difficult travel conditions due to crosswinds particularly on east-to-west running roadways.

Precautionary/preparedness actions: A wind advisory means that sustained wind speeds of at least 31 mph or gusts of 45 mph are expected. Motorists in the advisory area should be prepared for sudden gusty crosswinds, which can make driving difficult.
