The showcase will be displayed at the Sears Art Museum Gallery in the Eccles Fine Arts Center on the DSU campus from Wednesday until May 2. A free artist reception will be held April 19 from 7 to 9 p.m.; the public is invited to view the exhibit, enjoy refreshments, musical entertainment and meet the artists.

The showcase features the finest work of DSU students and faculty from the 2012-13 academic year. The exhibit will display a wide variety of art media, including oil, watercolor and acrylic paintings, drawings in various media, ceramics, mixed media sculptures, traditional and digital photography and various art installations. In addition, the showcase will highlight the work of seven students who will be part of DSU’s first-ever graduating class with a bachelor’s of art degree this year.

“This year’s art department showcase includes the work of seven graduating seniors receiving their degrees in art,” DSU Professor of Art Dennis Martinez said. “Along with these senior projects, there will be a number of juried art student pieces as well as a number of art faculty works.”

The purpose of the yearly exhibit is to allow DSU art students to experience the benefits of learning to present themselves and their artwork in a professional manner and to improve their portfolios. The showcase also provides DSU art professors an opportunity to show off the work they have created throughout the year.

“Since the approval of the four-year art degree last spring, the department has added a wider range of art classes,” Martinez said. “This will be presented with a wider variety of discipline from drawing, painting and design to ceramics, sculpture and installation to photography and graphic design.”

The exhibit is free and open to the public through May 2, with hours running weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please contact Sears Art Museum Gallery curator Kathy Cieslewicz at 435-652-7909.
