Learn about gender, medieval art at next ‘Unheard Voices’ Dixie Forum

ST. GEORGE – Dixie State University‘s weekly “Dixie Forum: A Window on the World” convocation series continues its historical “Unheard Voices” format for the 2013 spring semester with a discussion on “Gender History and Medieval Art” by DSU art history professor Dr. Nancy Ross on Thursday.

Ross is an internationally renowned expert in gender theory and medieval art. She received her Master’s degree in art history from the University of St. Andrews in 2002 and her doctorate in the history of art from the University of Cambridge in 2007. Her current research interests include women and gender in Early Christian Art, Gothic Apocalypse manuscripts and their readers and Apocalypse iconography throughout the Middle Ages.

The forum will begin at noon in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Resource Center on the DSU campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Dixie Forum series introduced a new format at the beginning of the 2013 spring semester featuring historical topics ranging from civil rights, military conflicts and the arts, among other subjects. The final forum for the spring semester will feature a presentation on hate crimes by Erin Davies on April 18. A former hate crime victim, Davies is the founder of the Fagbug Project and the star of the award-winning documentary based on the project.

    GENDER THEORY? What a waste of time. There are two genders. Male and Female. Both are equally important for procreation and are also fun. What more is there to say?

    Big Don, while there are only two genders, society has come to accept so much perversion, that just maybe a bit of education on “gender-ism” would be a good idea.
