ST. GEORGE – With the wind gusting and the temperatures flirting with the 40s, one had to figure it was going to be Canyon View’s day.

The Lady Falcons jumped on Dixie early and never let up in a 10-1 victory at Dixie High. The difference in what happened was reflected in both coach’s postgame thoughts.

“We hit the ball really well,” Canyon View coach Kyle DeLange said. “We’ve been working hard and know we can’t afford to lose. Things went well for us.”

Dixie’s Dave Demas saw things the other way.

“Every team at every level has a day like this occasionally,” he said. “What could go wrong did go wrong. But we’ll keep battling and get after it this weekend.”

Canyon View really didn’t need any help, pounding out 13 hits, including five extra-base hits. But the Lady Flyers helped them anyway, committing six errors and dropping several would-be outs.

“I don’t know what was going on,” Demas said. “It seemed like it was contagious. We just had a come-apart.”

After a scoreless first inning, Canyon View struck for three runs in the top of the second. Jaycee Slack started it with a one-out walk, followed by back to back doubles from Jessica Jarvis and Cheyenne Anderson, making it 2-0. Anderson then scored after a passed ball and an error to make it 3-0.

The Lady Falcons doubled the lead with three runs in the third. Kenzie Sawyer and Jarvis both had hits in the inning.

The lead grew to 8-0 before Dixie finally got on the scoreboard. In the bottom of the sixth, Aubri Challis singled and moved to second on a passed ball. She then scored to make it 8-1 on an RBI single by Summer Simkins.

Canyon View added a couple of insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Josie Platt pitched the complete game for Canyon View, which improved to 7-7 overall and 4-2 in region play, a game and a half behind leader Snow Canyon. The Lady Falcons take a break from region play and battle a pair of Las Vegas teams this weekend in Durango and Palo Verde.

Dixie, 9-6 and 2-4, plays at home vs. Hurricane Friday afternoon.

Hurricane 6, Desert Hills 2

The Lady Tigers improved to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in region with the road win. Hurricane plays at Dixie Friday afternoon as the two teams battle to try get into playoff position. The Lady Thunder drop to 0-6 in region (1-11 overall) with the defeat.

Pine View vs. Cedar (postponed)

The two teams will play Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Pine View.
