WASHINGTON CITY – A vehicle is a total loss after catching fire on Interstate 15 near Washington Wednesday night.
Trooper Lawrence Hopper of the Utah Highway Patrol said a man was driving a 1998 Dodge Stratus on southbound I-15 near Exit 10, around 6:20 p.m., when his vehicle ran over what is believed to have been a couch cushion left in the road way.
The cushion became lodged underneath the vehicle and the man pulled over so he could attempt to remove it. At this time the car began to smoke and soon caught fire.
Traffic on I-15 was impacted as one lane was closed for the responding fire department at the scene. Despite the efforts of firefighters, the vehicle was “a complete loss,” Hopper said.
Though the car was destroyed, the driver was unharmed. Hopper said the man was from out-of-town and had been on his way to California.
