Cancer and Needs Beyond Medicine; Dixie State forum

ST. GEORGE – Dixie State University’s weekly “Dixie Forum: A Window on the World” convocation series continues its “Unheard Voices” lectures with a presentation on the worldwide battle against cancer April 4.

The presentation will be delivered by Phillip Brown of the Needs Beyond Medicine Foundation. The foundation was created in 2001 with the vision of helping raise public awareness of all types of cancers. The organization hopes to expand its relief program to a national level, offering assistance to all cancer survivors, regardless of their geographic location. Brown was the first employee of Needs Beyond Medicine and has been a longtime advocate for both the care of cancer patients and education on how the disease can be better managed through early detection.

The forum will begin at noon in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Resource Center on the DSU campus. Admission is free.

The Dixie Forum series introduced a new format at the beginning of the 2013 spring semester, which features historical topics ranging from civil rights, military conflicts and the arts, among other subjects. The second week of April will feature two Dixie Forum presentations, the first coming on April 8, followed by a second forum on April 11.

The first presentation will feature a keynote speech by former DSU President Dr. Douglas D. Alder as part of DSU’s third annual Student Research Day beginning at noon in the Gardner Center Ballroom. The second forum will feature a presentation on gender and medieval art by DSU art faculty member Dr. Nancy Ross in the Dunford Auditorium at noon.
