WASHINGTONG COUNTY – Utah State University linebacker Jacob Doughty is accused of knowingly supplying alcohol to minors.
According to court documents, Doughty, 21, of Draper, was boating at Sand Hollow State Park Tuesday when a park ranger on patrol made contact with Doughty and others in the boat. The ranger said in the report he intended to speak to the boaters about a boat inspection. While talking to one of the individuals in the boat he asked if the group had been drinking and if everyone was over 21.
Two underage females told the ranger they not been drinking. The ranger had the two step onto his boat at which point the operator of the other boat said, “What’s the big deal if they have had a couple of beers?”
The ranger asked the two females again if they had been drinking and they said they yes. The ranger had them both take a breathalyzer test which reacted positive for alcohol. When asked who gave them the beer, the two indicated Doughty had.
According to the probable cause report, the ranger spoke with Doughty who said he had purchased the alcohol and supplied to the two females.
The ranger arrested Doughty and he was booked into the Purgatory Correctional Facility on one count of knowingly supplying alcohol to a minor, a class A misdemeanor. His bail currently stands at S1,050.
Doughty is a graduate of Juan Diego High School and is currently a senior at USU majoring in mechanical engineering. On the Aggies website he is listed as an All-WAC for 2010 and 2011, and is “projected as one of the top linebackers on the team.”
He has entered a “not guilty” plea. A preliminary hearing is set for April 29.
