ST. GEORGE – A three-vehicle accident on St. George Boulevard sent one to the hospital and another into police custody Friday morning.

Around 11 a.m., two passenger vehicles were stopped at a red light at the intersection of St. George Boulevard and Bluff Street. Officer Chad Pectol, St. George Police Department, said a third vehicle failed to stop and crashed into a stopped vehicle which was then shoved into the vehicle in front of it.

William Rogers and his wife were in the middle vehicle that took the brunt of the impact. Though Rogers was unharmed, he said his wife complained of knee and shoulder pain. She was transported to Intermountain Healthcare Southwest Region’s Dixie Regional Medical Center.

Victoria Willard, and her two children, who were in the lead car, were also uninjured, though Willard said she was shaken by the whole event. She said the driver of the vehicle that rammed Rogers’s didn’t seem very coherent at the time of the accident.

Pectol couldn’t comment on the status of the driver, an adult female, as the investigation was ongoing at the time.  The driver was also uninjured and was taken into custody. She was later charged with counts of following too close behind a vehicle, having no insurance, and operating a motor vehicle with a measurable amount of a controlled substance in her body, though the amount of that substance was not enough to amount to a DUI violation.

Can’t the state do more to cut the number of uninsured motorists? Maybe require proof of insurance when registering the vehicle and insurance companies can send a note to local law enforcement if the policy is dropped.
