UPDATE: Fatal shooting incident in Cedar City

CEDAR CITY – A shooting in Cedar City left one man dead and a woman seriously injured Friday Afternoon.

Sgt. Jimmy Roden, Cedar City Police Department, said officers responded to the report of a suicidal male in the area of 300 North 400 West around 2 p.m.  While en route, officers were informed that gunfire had occurred at the residence.

After arriving on the scene officers also made contact with an adult male outside of the home.  The male told officers there were two people in the home and one had been shot. The second person in the home was described as likely being armed with a handgun.

The Iron Metro SWAT team was called in and after assessing the situation, entered the home and discovered a dead adult male and an injured adult female who had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. The female was transported to a local area hospital where she was later airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

The male the police contacted outside of the residence was initially described as a person of interest and was taken into custody.

The names of the victims have not yet been released. The investigation is ongoing.

The incident was originally reported as a standoff and has been updated with new information from the Cedar City Police Department.
