Steven Arko, 59, was arrested by Hurricane Police Department on Feb. 3 for theft, criminal mischief, trespassing and burglary, associated with him being caught in the act at Ballard’s Auto Wrecking.

Hurricane Police then asked LaVerkin Police to search Arko’s home for stolen property. LaVerkin Det. Travis Romney said that while checking the home, he found “quite a bit of meth amphetamine and quite a bit of paraphernalia.”

Arko, still in custody, was then booked by LaVerkin police on possession of meth, a third degree felony, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class B misdemeanor. Bail on those charges was set at $5,389, adding to the $10,809 aggregate bail already set on the burglary and related charges. Arko currently remains in custody.

Romney said that Arko has a history of quite a bit of drug charges and theft charges. He is believed to have at least one “partner in crime,” Romney said, “that we know of …. he (the partner in crime) took off on us, we weren’t able to catch him, so we’ll be following up on other leads.”

Editor’s note: Persons arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty or otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
