ST. GEORGE — Snow Canyon’s Chandler Gines started hot and the Hurricane Tigers got run off the court Friday night in The Jungle.

Gines had 14 first-half points and the Warriors rushed out to a 22-point halftime lead en route to an easy 73-38 win over Hurricane.

Snow Canyon, sitting in first place in Region 9, came out focused and destroyed any upset thoughts the last-place Tigers may have entertained. The Warriors dominated the glass (38-24) and made half of their 3-pointers (9 for 18) and eventually emptied their bench in the second half.

Gines finished with 19 points and Kallan Webster, who had three of those treys, had 11, but no less than 14 different green-and-gold clad young men scored in the game.

The crucial win puts Snow Canyon one full game ahead of Cedar and one and a half games ahead of Desert Hills, which lost tonight.

The Warriors have a tough closing stretch to the regular season. At 11-5 overall and 8-1 in region, Snow Canyon plays at Cedar next Wednesday, then at home against Desert Hills. SC’s final game before the playoffs is at Dixie Feb. 12.

Hurricane, 1-17 and 0-10, was led by Cody Lebaron’s eight points.
