SOUTHERN UTAH – The National Weather Service has issued an alert at 4:11 p.m. today, in effect from 10 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.
A weather disturbance moving northeast out of southern California tonight will move east along the Utah/Arizona border Saturday. This disturbance and a very moist air mass across Southern Utah will lead to periods of heavy snow across the southern mountains late tonight through early Saturday evening.
* Affected area: The southern mountains of Utah, including the cities of Loa, Panguitch and Bryce canyon.
* Snow accumulations: There will be 4 to 8 inches, with locally greater amounts along the south-facing slopes.
* Timing: Light rain and snow this evening will turn to all snow above 7,500 feet by late this evening. Snow will turn heavy by early Saturday morning and will remain heavy at times through Saturday afternoon. Snow will taper off early Saturday evening.
* Impacts: High elevation roadways will become snow-packed during the day Saturday. Travel along all mountains roadways will be hazardous on Saturday.
Precautionary/preparedness actions:
A winter weather advisory means that snow accumulations will cause ravel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads. Use caution while driving.
