ST. GEORGE – It is time again for the DOCUTAH screeners to screen films that have been submitted for festival consideration, and the public is called upon to participate in the screening process. Introduction and orientation for those interested in being screeners will be held Jan. 30.
More than 400 documentary films from around the world are expected to be submitted between now and the submission deadline of May 15, 2013. Approximately 60 of those films will be chosen to screen during the DOCUTAH Film Festival scheduled for Sept. 3–7. Films began arriving shortly after the festival announced the call for entries on Dec. 9, 2012, and more than 85 films have already been submitted, and 60 have been received at Dixie State College of Utah.
“Dixie State College is pleased to present the film festival and energized by the international and local interest,” DSC Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Festival Director Christina Schultz said. “The film selection process is an exciting time.”
DOCUTAH is looking for volunteer screeners from the community to view and rate the film submissions.
“If you enjoy watching documentary films and can spend a few hours each week in the comfort of your own home, with a few friends,” DOCUTAH Artistic Director, Phil Tuckett, “then this is a task for you.”
The Screener Introduction and Orientation Meeting is on Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in the Dunford Auditorium located in the Browning Resource Center on the campus of Dixie State College. Community members will be instructed on the simple process of film review. And they will meet festival directors and experienced screeners providing you opportunity to decide if you’d like to join the team.

The DOCUTAH Southern Utah International Documentary Film Festival originated at Dixie State College in 2010. The event has been praised as one of the nation’s best “Small-Town Documentary Film Festivals for 2012” by the Public Broadcasting System.
