Road winners as Thunder bounce back against Canyon View

CEDAR CITY – Desert Hills bounced back from a crushing defeat to Snow Canyon with a solid 46-41 road victory over Canyon View on Friday.

Ty Rutledge

Ty Rutledge led all scorers with 18 points and added seven rebounds to propel the Thunder to victory. Chase Thompson added eight points and was the only other Desert Hills player to score more than four points.

“We definitely need more scoring from our perimeter guys,” Desert Hills coach Wade Turley said. “We need someone to help Ty out. He’s been really consistent in double-figures, but we need a post and some other kids to step it up and be a little more efficient offensively.”

The game was close until the Thunder built a 12-point lead in the third quarter, but Canyon View rallied in the fourth to make things interesting. The Falcons outscored Desert Hills 20-13 in the final period, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.

Chad Corry led the Falcons with 13 points and two 3-pointers and Brady Barrett added nine points.

Desert Hills improves to 4-2 in region play and now sits in third place behind Cedar and Snow Canyon. The Thunder return to Cedar on Wednesday to take on the top-ranked Redmen. Canyon View falls to 1-5 and squares off with Snow Canyon on Wednesday.
