FOUND: Brooklyn Gittins, 13, found safe; disappearance suspicious

SOUTH JORDAN – Brooklyn Gittins, the 13-year-old girl who disappeared from Herriman Tuesday, has been found safe and reunited with her family.

Gittins called her grandmother around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday and told her that she was at a Wal-Mart in South Jordan. Her grandmother contacted the Unified Police Department, who subsequently picked the girl up.

She was still wearing the T-shirt and pajama pants she had on when she vanished from her family’s home on Tuesday night, with no coat, shoes or glasses. She was not injured and is in good health.

Gittins’ disappearance is considered suspicious. The UPD said it believes she was picked up and harbored by one or more persons and continue to investigate where she went and who she was with.

In its press release, the UPD thanked the community, public safety personnel and the media for their efforts in response to Gittins’ disappearance.
