ST. GEORGE – The investigation into the disappearance of Dylan Redwine remains ongoing as police, friends and family continue their search.
Dylan Redwine, 13, disappeared from his father’s house in Bayfield, Colo., on Nov. 19, 2012. What began as a search and rescue effort became characterized as a criminal investigation two weeks later. The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, Durango Police Department, Bayfield Marshal’s Office, Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are just some of the law enforcement agencies involved.
The Dylan Redwine Task Force, comprised of 50 investigators and officers from five local, state and federal agencies, has searched Bayfield and the surrounding areas since the boy vanished.
Friends, family and missing person advocate groups from across the country have helped raise awareness via social media. The Find Missing Dylan Redwine Facebook page, launched by Dylan Redwine’s mother, Elaine Redwine and other family friends, quickly obtained over 7,000 followers.
La Verkin residents Jamie Howard and Jason Howard are leading the charge locally; Jason Howard is Dylan Redwine’s cousin. The first thing the couple does each morning is check in with someone involved in the investigation, hoping and praying for good news.
“It’s a ‘one day at a time’ situation with hopes that today is the day that Dylan comes home,” Jamie Howard said. “We will never give up hope that he will be found.”
Description of Dylan Redwine
Dylan Redwine is 5 feet tall and weighs 105 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue baseball cap with a white front inscribed with the words “Duke Blue Devils,” a black T-shirt with a grey DC logo on the front, black knee-length basketball shorts with light-colored stripes on the sides and black “Jordan” shoes with a white tongue and shoelaces.
Current state of the investigation
The number of tips from the public coming into the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office has dropped from several dozen per day to two or three per day. However, all of the sheriff’s office investigators are still assigned to the case and continue to make follow-up contacts by phone and in person.
Some evidence sent to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation has been processed and returned to the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office; information regarding that evidence will not be released, as the investigation remains active.
Family members are continuing to cooperate with the authorities.
