HURRICANE – Anytime a team can pick up a win on the road, it will gladly take it. Especially if the team didn’t play its best.
Desert Hills overcame a poor shooting performance to defeat Hurricane 50-35. The Thunder shot just 33 percent from the field, but pulled away from the Tigers in the second half.
“We just didn’t shoot the ball and execute offensively very well,” Desert Hills coach Wade Turley said. “We feel good that we were able to come out of there with a win.”
Jordan Hokanson led the Thunder with 13 points and seven rebounds and Josh Anderson finished with seven points, 11 rebounds and six steals.
Hurricane had its own shooting woes to deal with and managed to shoot just 29 percent from the field. Garet Cahoon paced the Tigers, which trailed by eight points at halftime, with 12 points on three triples. However, the Thunder proved too much and eventually extended the lead to double-digits for good.
“It was just two different halves,” Hurricane coach Brian Vaiafanua said. “We felt like we played pretty good, but we just could not put the ball in the hole in the second half. That’s just been one of our biggest challenges is putting a complete game together.”
Desert Hills improves to 2-1 in Region 9 action and will battle Pine View on Wednesday. Hurricane falls to 0-3 in the region and hosts Snow Canyon on Wednesday. Both games tip off at 7 p.m.
