Susan Kay Henrie

SANTA CLARA  Susan Kay Martin Henrie, 75, passed away December 11, 2012 at her home in Santa Clara, Utah.  Daughter of Peter and Pearl Martin, she was born February 7, 1937 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Her family lived in Greenwood, Indiana where she attended school and graduated as the Valedictorian. She attended Southern Illinois University and Brigham Young University where she received her Bachelor’s degree. She married Marion Lyman Henrie, September 1, 1961 in the Salt Lake Temple and they are the parents of seven children and 25 grandchildren.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings throughout her life. Before she married she served in the Great Lakes Mission. After her children were grown she and her husband served first at the Bountiful Temple as Ordinance workers, then at Cove Fort as maintenance missionaries, then a proselyting mission in the New Jersey Morristown Mission. Kay and Lyman then worked in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and as Ordinance workers in the St. George Temple. She was passionate about family history work, spending many hours researching her ancestors and submitting thousands of names for temple ordinances.

She enjoyed being a mother, grandmother and homemaker, was a talented seamstress, and enjoyed reading, hiking, gardening, boating, and traveling to see new places. She devoted her entire life to raising and caring for her family.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Marion Lyman Henrie; children, Marty (Sherri) Henrie, Centerville, Utah; Shawn (Dixie) Henrie, Washington, Utah; Erin (Matt) McMullin, Bakersfield, California; Kristen (John) Walton, Santa Clara, Utah; Peter (Maria) Henrie, Tokyo, Japan; Jason (Natalie) Henrie, Roy, Utah; and Marikay (Todd) Warner, Casper, Wyoming. Her 25 grandchildren and her five brothers, Jerry (Joan) Martin, North Carolina; Kent (MaryEllen) Martin, Delaware; Frank (Willu) Martin, Indiana; Peter Martin, Florida; and Tim (Tammy) Martin, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rachel Chapel, 3815 Rachel Drive, Santa Clara. A viewing and visitation will precede the services from 9:30 until 10:45. Burial will be in the Santa Clara City Cemetery.
