Begging for Coins for Kids at area Wal-Mart stores; volunteers welcome

ST. GEORGE – Volunteers, U.S. Marines, and others will be at the Bloomington and Washington Wal-mart stores “begging” for donations for Coins for Kids Friday.

Officially called “Begging for Coins,” Carl Lamar, president of the board for Coins for Kids, said it was one of the charity’s biggest donation days.

“That day has produced anywhere between $3-20,000,” he said.

Lamar and others will be at the Bloomington and Washington Wal-Mart stores from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday. Aside from Lamar, the group of “beggers” will consist of volunteers, Wal-Mart employees and Marines, as Coins for Kids is partnered with the Toys for Tots program.

Coins for Kids is currently $65,000 short of its goal, Lamar said, and asked people to come out and make a donation. If anyone wishes to donate online, they can do so at the Coins for Kids website.

Lamar said Coins for Kids is providing toys to over 18,000 children in Washington County this holiday season.
