ST. GEORGE – It’s just one game, but it looks like the Snow Canyon Warriors are going to have a pretty potent inside-out game.

Nate Gottfredson (inside) and Brendan Truman (outside) combined for 30 points and Snow Canyon opened the season with a dominant 64-40 win over Washington County neighbor Enterprise.

“The kids came out and worked really hard, especially on defense,” Warriors coach James Brown said. “We gave up just four points in the first quarter and only five until late in the second quarter before we put in some of the younger guys.”

Snow Canyon has a very different team than one would have supposed just six months ago. The untimely death of up-and-comer K.J. Harrison paired with major knee injuries last summer to Chandler Gines and Gabe Jensen meant Brown had to make some major adjustments heading into this 2012-2013 campaign.

“A lot of these younger players are going to get opportunities,” Brown said. “I’m proud of the way they have worked. We got some huge minutes from Tanner Sampson.”

Sampson played six minutes and had five points to aid the Snow Canyon cause.

But it was Truman (16 points, 4 of 5 3-pointers) and Gottfredson (14 points, nine rebounds) who stole the show.

The Warriors made 8 of 22 treys in the game and owned the glass, out-rebounding the Wolves 36-14. Snow Canyon had as many offensive rebounds as Enterprise had total rebounds.

“We started Tyler Wardell at the four and he did a little bit of everything for us,” Brown said. “Jake Frei started at the point and he did a good job.”

Frei had four assists and four rebounds and only turned the ball over once.

Snow Canyon travels to northern Utah Friday and Saturday with games against 5A powers Alta and Jordan.

“We’re going to see what we’re made of,” Brown said.
