ST. GEORGE – La Verkin residents Jason and Jamie Howard request the public’s vigilant attention for Jason’s cousin, 13-year-old Dylan Redwine, who was reported missing from Bayfield, Colo., on Nov. 19. The Howards moved to La Verkin, Utah, from Colorado eight years ago.

“I cannot even imagine what his mom, dad, and brother are feeling,” Jamie said. “And since we can’t be down there we are trying to get his picture out through the Internet. I know a lot of people are dissapointed there hasn’t been an Amber Alert on him.”

Searches continue today in La Plata County for Dylan, who was reported  missing by his father, Mark Redwine, last Monday during a court-ordered Thanksgiving visit to his (Mark Redwine’s) home in Vallecito, 22 miles northeast of Durango, Colo.

Dylan’s father told investigators Dylan was at his house on County Road 500 when he left to do some errands at about 7:30 a.m. Monday. Mark said Dylan was gone when he returned to the house at about 11:30 a.m.

Mark reported Dylan as missing to La Plata County Sheriff’s Office after he was unable to find him during the afternoon.

Dylan is described as: 13 years old, 5 feet tall, 105 pounds, blond hair, blue eyes, and fair complexion.

He was last seen wearing: A blue and white “DUKE BLUE DEVILS” baseball cap; black “NIKE” T-shirt; black basketball shorts; black “JORDAN” tennis shoes; black backpack.

Dylan’s mother, Elaine Redwine, and his older brother Cory have been in La Plata County since receiving word of Dylan’s disappearance and have been working closely with searchers and investigators.

The search continues

Citizen volunteers who have already canvassed the Vallecito area in previous days, including Thanksgiving Day, will spend part of their Saturday going door-to-door and handing out flyers in the Bayfield area, south of Vallecito. Bayfield is where Dylan spent much of his time when he lived in the area until this past summer when he, his mother and his brother moved to Colorado Springs.

At the request of La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, members of La Plata County Search and Rescue are conducting searches around Vallecito including on Vallecito Lake by boat and along several miles of  U.S. Forestry Service’s Middle Mountain Road using all-terrain vehicles. Search K-9s are also expanding their Vallecito search.

Broadcast alert

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued a media alert Friday with information on Dylan in an effort to have as many people as possible see his photograph and know he is still missing.

Photos and information about Dylan have been posted on the National Center for Missing  and Exploited Children website.

NCMEC is a national database alert system equivalent to the Amber Alert system, Bender said, without the criteria restrictions of an Amber Alert. Amber Alerts are typically issued for younger children, he said, and include a vehicle description, a possible direction of travel, and suspect information; criteria not met in Dylan’s case.

Missing children

“It was disheartening to look at the website this morning and see not only Dylan’s picture but the faces of 18 other children staring back at me,” La Plata County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Dan Bender said. “Sheriff’s Office personnel working to find Dylan are fathers, mothers, and grandparents. Each  of  us feel Dylan’s family’s pain and know something could just as easily happen to our loved ones.”

According to the NCMEC website, 2,000 children are reported missing every day in the U.S.

Anyone who may have information on Dylan’s whereabouts are asked to contact
