ST. GEORGE – On Saturday, 4,288 registered runners and an additional rainbow of youngsters in strollers braved the frigid temperatures to experience vivid joy at the Color Me Rad 5K.

“We are so thrilled that more than 4,000 runners came out to have a great time and also to raise money for such a great organization,” said Gretchen Willard of the Color Me Rad staff. “Habitat for Humanity is making a difference not only in individual homes and families, but for the entire community. Color Me Rad 5K is happy to be a part of that (and) we hope next year we get even more people out for the colorful fun.”

Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah will receive a portion of the proceeds from Color Me Rad, which totaled more than $14,000. Those funds will be applied to the 18th Habitat home in Washington County, scheduled to be dedicated to Tia Muhlestein and her 6-year-old daughter Rylee in December.

Michael Gburski, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah, said, “It was great to see so many people there in support of Habitat. (This) event will provide the financial resources to ensure that we will complete our 2012 Home for the Holidays on time.”

“Each plume of dazzling color made an enduring impact on our organization and community,” said Melissa Ann Santora, Director of Community Engagement for Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Utah. “Words cannot express the positive effect this opportunity has had on our affiliate. Being the official charity of the inaugural Color Me Rad 5K is an incredibly brilliant blessing and we can never thank (the event) or the more than 150 local volunteers enough.”
