WASHINGTON CITY – Jon Stanard, the Republican candidate for Utah’s new House District 62, is pleased to announce a strong list of endorsements for his campaign. These leaders in the state and community support him as the choice to represent this new district.
At the head of list is Gov. Gary Herbert.
“Jon Stanard’s experience in Washington County will be a great benefit to the Legislature,” Herbert said. “His understanding of southern Utah and his community involvement will make him a strong representative for the people of Washington and St. George.”
“He has a strong understanding of the Constitution and the proper role of government,” Sen. Mike Lee said. “I know Jon Stanard has the experience needed to be a fantastic legislator.”
A lifelong resident of Washington County, Stanard owns several small businesses and has worked with hundreds of local business owners, schools, and nonprofit groups. Every business he has owned has remained 100 percent debt-free, a testament to his ability in establishing and maintaining a budget.
Stanard became involved in politics in 2010 by volunteering on Lee’s senatorial campaign staff. At the encouragement of his friends and business peers, he decided to run for District 62. His priorities in representing the area are: Supporting Utah’s strong economy and business-friendly environment, maintaining the state’s balanced budget, gaining access to federally owned land for better use, preserving family values, improving Utah’s education system by working with parents and teachers at the local level, and fighting for limited government and restoring the balance between state and federal governments.
A new district in Southern Utah, 62 was created during redistricting in 2011. It sits on the extreme eastern border of St. George and the far western border of Washington City and encompasses parts of both.
