WASHINGTON CITY– The St. George Bomb Squad was called to a business parking lot in Washington to investigate suspicious packages that turned out to be a false alarm Friday.
Ed Kantor, public information officer for Washington City Public Safety, said a concerned citizen called police around 8 a.m. about a suspicious-looking suitcase and box left unattended in the parking lot of Jo-Ann Fabrics and Best Buy on West Telegraph Street.
Per protocol, Kantor said, the bomb squad was called in to investigate the package. He said it was routine practice for the bomb squad to be sent in when the contents of the package were unknown. For example, the suitcase and box could have contained explosives or chemical or biological agents, he said.
The suitcase and box contained personal items, and police are currently trying to find the owner, Kantor said.
