VIRGIN RIVER GORGE – The 16-mile long repaving project on Interstate 15 in northwest Arizona continues this weekend and into next week. Drivers traveling on this segment of I-15 should prepare for the following restrictions during the period Oct. 20 to 26:

Saturday to Wednesday: Northbound left lane will be closed between mileposts 24-29.

Wednesday to Friday: Southbound left lane will be closed between mileposts 26-29.

The work zone will be clearly marked by temporary barricades and signage. ADOT advises drivers to allow additional time to reach their destinations and to expect at least a 30-minute delay or greater on weekends. Drivers are also advised to proceed through the work zone with caution, comply with the reduced speed limit, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.

The $11.6 million project, which is scheduled for completion by the end of October, includes removal of a layer of the existing pavement and repaving the roadway from the Virgin River Gorge to the Utah State line – mileposts 13-29.

Individuals seeking to avoid the repaving work in the Virgin River Gorge may take Highway 91 as an alternate route. The highway bypasses the gorge entirely. Southbound travelers will reconnect with I-15 at Littlefield, Ariz., while northbound travelers will follow the route into Santa Clara and then St. George via Sunset Boulevard.
