ST. GEORGE – Dixie State College of Utah is teaming up with local harpists to introduce the instrument to the community with the Southwest Utah Harp Festival on Oct. 20.
Held the Saturday before DSC’s Homecoming Week, the festival will feature a duo recital by two award-winning harpists, Adriana Horne and Megan Landfair. They created the festival with the hope that the people of St. George will become more acquainted with the instrument.
“The goal of the festival is to introduce the harp and foster an appreciation for it,” Horne said. “We hope to make the festival an annual event with more people joining us each year.”
DSC has been supportive of the festival and has made several donations, including the use of a rental harp and performance hall.
“This event will enrich the culture of the area and is the type of thing we look to support,” said Glenn Webb, Chairman of the DSC Music Department. “It is very much in line with the values and goals of the music department.”
The recital will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Eccles Concert Hall on the DSC campus. General admission costs $5; $1 for students and faculty. Advance tickets are available online and can also be purchased at the door.
