ST. GEORGE — Community members turned out in force, both to compete and to cheer, on a balmy October morning at the St. George Marathon.
The 36th annual St. George Marathon took place Saturday with St. George’s Amber Green winning the women’s division and Mill Creek resident Fritz Van de Kamp winning the men’s division.
Green, who crossed the finish line with a huge smile and arms raised triumphantly, shaved five minutes off her personal best time by finishing in 2:43. Californian Annie O’Donnell took second for the women, finishing just ahead of Salt Lake City’s Julie Thomas. The duo was a full nine minutes behind Green’s winning time.
On the men’s side, the top local finisher was St. George resident Aaron Metler. He placed sixth with a time of 2:23:36. Five of the top six finishers are Utah residents, including winner Van de Kamp, second-place finisher Ian Hunter (Provo), third-place finisher Jonathon Kotter (Provo) and fourth place Scott Keate (Highland).
Japan’s Masakazu Takahishi was the top international finisher.
