ST. GEORGE — Pine View decimated the Canyon View Falcons 56-0 in a stunning blowout that saw running back Prentiss Miller notch five touchdowns and 220 yards on 17 carries.
The Panthers got off to a hot start, outscoring Canyon View 28-0 in the first quarter and never looked back.
The Falcons have so far had a difficult season. After defeating Richfield 23-13 in the preseason, Alex Huxford’s squad has dropped six straight and remains winless against Region 9.
“I think someone should do an article on the courage of those kids,” Hosner said. “They go out and beat some tough schools and play hard every night. It’s just a tough region and they’re a little smaller school than everyone. They fight and have courage and never quit. If I’m that coach, I’m proud of them.”
Pine View, meanwhile, remains on the up-and-up having won two out of its last three games.
“They’re finally gelling,” Hosner said. “We got some guys back from injuries. That’s helped us a little bit. We’ve had receivers and DBs out – it’s nice to get everyone back.
“Defensively we’re playing well and that’s helping us get a lot of offensive possessions. We’re really starting to come together as a team.”
Miller, who has nearly 1,700 rushing this season, scored on runs of 10, 23, 4, 7 and 29 yards. Tight end Gage Afatasi also scored on a 29-yard pass from Kody Wilstead and Pano Tiatia punched in a 6-yard TD in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers next face off against Bear River (Thursday, 3 p.m. at Snow College) before heading into an important game against Snow Canyon on the last day of the regular season.
Added Hosner: “We just need to get better, execute and play hard. That game in Snow Canyon might end up determining who gets that fourth playoff spot.”
