ST. GEORGE – Seamsters or not, everyone is invited to the 34th Annual Quilt Festival, to be held Sept. 19-22 at the Dixie Center St. George, hosted by the Utah Quilt Guild. Entrance into the show is $2, classes are extra.
The Utah Quilt Guild is dedicated to preserving and promoting the art of quiltmaking and has more than 60 local chapters throughout all of Utah and parts of Idaho. Aside from building and sharing their colorful creations, guild members host quilt shows and participate in fundraisers and service projects each year.
The Quilt Festival spans four days and is the guild’s largest event. It attracts quilting enthusiasts from around the globe. Internationally renowned quilting instructors Karen Combs, Flavin Glover, Ann Fahl and Claudia Clark Myers will conduct both lectures and hands-on sessions; over 60 classes total, each focusing on a different technique, will be taught.
On Wednesday, Combs will be teaching “Transparency,” Fahl will teach “A New Look At Appliqué,” Glover will teach “Log Cabin Houses” and Clark-Myers will teach “Casablanca.” Thursday, Fahl will be teaching “Mastering Metallics,” while Flavin will be conducting “Log Cabin Landscapes,” Combs will teach “Celtic Illusions” and Clark-Meyers will show ” A New View.” On Friday, Fahl will offer “Dancing On Your Quilts,” while Flavin will be demonstrating “Log Cabin Court House Steps” and “Integrating Patchwork Designs,” Combs will teach “Patchwork Illusions.” On Saturday, Flavin will have “Colorful and Creative Log Cabins” and Combs will display the techniques of “Crystal Star.”
And there are more. Local quilt teachers will be teaching students new and exciting quilting techniques. See the festival’s full schedule of quilting classes here. Half day and evening classes start at $15.00.
Other highlights include judged quilting shows, a vendor mall, auctions and raffles. A special booth with all proceeds donated to breast cancer research will also be on hand.
Festival events will be held at the Dixie Convention Center, but classes will be spread to venues throughout St. George. A detailed schedule of the festival can be found here.
Classes run from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and the festival hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Online registration for the show and for classes is recommended. Some classes are already full so early registration is recommended to join your preferred class.
