MOHAVE COUNTY, Ariz. – Sometime before 9 a.m. today scanner radio listeners heard chatter indicating there had been a plane crash somewhere in the Mesquite, Nev., Arizona Strip area. Mesquite Police Officer Jeffrey Smith said some inquiries he received even said it was a passenger plane crash. There was an incident but it was an ultralight aircraft, flown by a solo male pilot, making an emergency landing.
“(The) single person ultralight had engine trouble a few minutes into its flight,” Mohave County Sheriff’s public information officer, Patricia Carter, said. “The pilot had no power and had to put it down in the desert just inside Arizona from the Arizona / Nevada border.”
Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the incident about 7:29 a.m.
Beaver Dam / Littlefield Fire and Rescue also responded and when they arrived on the scene, Smith said, the pilot was walking around. Carter said the pilot had minor injuries, scrapes and a couple cuts, and walked away from the incident.
The pilot has been identified by Mohave County Sheriff’s Department as Jerry Roger Olsen, 71, of Mesquite, Nev.
