Game Preview Capsule: Uintah at Pine View

GAME PREVIEW CAPSULE

Uintah (0-2) at Pine View (1-1)

UTES
Classification: 3A, Region 10
Coach: Cody Reutzel (first year, 0-2 overall)
Offense: Spread, pro-set
Last week: Lost to Green River, Wyo,. 34-27
Players to watch: Just before the season started, the Utes switched Mavrick Lindquist from QB to RB and handed the signal-calling duties to Braxton Coonis. Lindquist was expected to be the star, but Coonis has more yards rushing and has passed pretty well, hitting about 60 percent of his passes. But the Utes are woefully undersized.
PPG: 13.5
PAPG: 42.5
Trend: Uintah played a close one against a Wyoming team last week, but their true colors showed against a good Stansbury team to open the season, a 51-0 loss. Uintah keeps scheduling Region 9 teams in the preseason, but who knows why. The get blasted every time.

PANTHERS
Classification: 3A, Region 9
Coach: Ray Hosner (12th year, 95-34 overall)
Offense: I-back and spread
Last week: Beat Orem 24-21
Players to watch: RB Prentiss Miller had an amazing 51 carries last week, a new state record. He produced with 270 yards in the PV win. The Panthers seem to have found a way to capitalize on that huge offensive line, led by Cody Boyer and Logan Stott.
PPG: 12.0
PAPG: 28.0
Trend: Pine View is still trying to find its identity. A spread team for 11 years under Hosner, it’s hard to believe they would scrap it just like that for the I-formation. But maybe there is some happy medium the Panthers can strive for. Of course, if the I works, why go away from it, right?

GAME OUTLOOK
Pine View dominated many aspects of last week’s win at Orem, but had to hold on at the end. This week, Uintah will be an easier target. The Panthers should have plenty of room to run and maybe the coaching staff will let backup RB Pano Tiatia even get a few more carries. Pine View should roll.
