Game Preview Capsule: Legacy at Hurricane

GAME PREVIEW CAPSULE

Legacy, Nev. (0-0) at Hurricane (2-0)

LONGHORNS
Classification: 3A, Sunset Region
Coach: Dave Snyder (seventh year, 29-31 overall)
Offense: I-back
Last year: 4-5
Players to watch: QB Kashawn Richardson is back from last season. Senior Randy Ricks is a load at TE, plus the Longhorns offensive line is big, averaging nearly 260 pounds a man.
PPG (last year): 25.9
PAPG (last year): 23.6
Trend: Legacy made the playoffs last year, but their money back, D’Andre Hughes, has graduated. Having a returning QB helps and they scored a ton of points last season, but they really need new RB Charles Julian to step up.

TIGERS
Classification: 3A, Region 9
Coach: Chris Homer (11th year, 78-42 overall)
Offense: Wing-T
Last week: Beat West Jordan 28-14
Players to watch: Pick your poison: Jam the middle and watch Adam Thompson go wild on the outside. Covers the edges and watch Jared Edwards blast you up the middle. Perhaps we’ll get to see Zac Prince throw the ball a little more this week.
PPG: 24.0
PAPG: 10.5
Trend: The trend is winning, now 15 straight. The Tigers have built an impressive program and they even succeed when teams seem to out-muscle them, though that rarely happens anyway. This will probably be a breakout game, points-wise for Hurricane. Last season they averaged up near 40 points, so look out.

GAME OUTLOOK
Still can’t put a finger on why St. George teams dominate Las Vegas teams most of the time. It could be coaching. It could be discipline. It could be just flat out better football. Whatever it is, this game could get ugly early. The elite Vegas teams can play with Region 9. Legacy is hardly elite.
