Dixie State tabs Felder as new volleyball coach

ST. GEORGE – Heading into the 2012 season, the Dixie State College volleyball program will see a new figure at the head of the coaching ship.  DSC Athletic Director Jason Boothe has named Robyn Felder head coach, effective immediately.

Felder assumes the duties from Darice Pratt. Pratt resigned earlier this month after her husband, Trent, accepted an assistant baseball coaching position at Brigham Young University in Provo.

“I am sad to leave the Dixie State volleyball team, but am confident that Robyn will be a great asset to the program and continue the progress that we have made over the last year and a half,” said Darice Pratt. “I know this program has a bright future and I will dearly miss all of my players.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as the head volleyball coach at Dixie State and want to thank them for the opportunity to be a part of the Red Storm family.  It has been a pleasure to work with the athletes and all those affiliated with the athletic department.”

Felder currently coaches the club team for 16-year-olds in the Southern Utah Volleyball Academy. She played collegiately at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash. In 2001-02, Felder was selected as an Eastern Washington University recipient of the Big Sky Conference Scholar-Athlete Award. Felder was twice named to the Big Sky Conference postseason volleyball team – second team as a senior in 2001 and first team as a junior in 2000. She was named Big Sky Newcomer of the Year after finishing first in the conference in hitting percentage (.356).

“I am excited about this opportunity to coach at the collegiate level,” Felder said. “Darice really had Dixie State moving in the right direction and I hope to come build on what she has accomplished. We have a young squad, but we are athletic and I have great expectations for the future of Red Storm volleyball.”

Prior to her stint at Eastern, Felder shined at Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho) under head coach JoAnn Reeve. Felder earned her bachelor’s degree from EWU and is married to Chris Felder. The couple have three children.
