ARIZONA STRIP, Ariz. Six new fires have started on the Arizona Strip over the weekend. The 1,981-acre Cottonwood Fire is currently the largest and is 80 percent contained as of Monday morning. Previous fires – the Plateau and Hobble Complex fires – are both contained and under control at this time.
Fire Managers wish to remind the public that fire restrictions are still in effect throughout the Color Country Fire Management Area with prohibitions that include restrictions on the use of open fire of any kind including among others: charcoal, smoking limitations, fireworks or tracer ammunition, operating Off-Highway Vehicles/All-Terrain Vehicles without spark arresters.
Fires on the Arizona Strip are burning in cheatgrass, mixed brush, and pinyon/juniper trees. No road closures or evacuations have been implemented, no structures threatened, and no injuries reported on the following fires:
Hayrocks Fire
- Start: July 21, 2012
- Location: Near Hayrocks
- Size: 9 acres
- Cause: Human/Fireworks
- Containment: Contained and Controlled
- Resources: One engine
Cottonwood Fire
- Start: July 21, 20127-21-12
- Location: Arizona Strip
- Size: 1,981acres
- Cause: Lightning
- Containment: 80 percent
- Resources: Five engines
Grand Fire
- Start: July 21, 2012
- Location: Near Snap Point, north of Plateau Fire
- Size: 408 acres
- Cause: Lightning
- Containment: None at this time
- Resources: Three engines and one Type 3 Helicopter
Rattlesnake Fire
- Start: July 22, 2012
- Location: Arizona Strip
- Size: Five acres
- Cause: Lightning
- Containment: None at this time
- Resources: Two engines
Grove Fire
- Start: July 22, 2012
- Location: Arizona Strip
- Size: Single tree
- Cause: Lightning
- Containment: Contained and controlled
- Resources: None at this time
Hidden Fire
- Start: July 23, 2012
- Location: Arizona Strip
- Size: Approximately 50 acres
- Cause: Lightning
- Containment: None at this time
- Resources: One 20-person hand crew, three fire engines, one water tender en route. four seats, one heavy air tanker, two Type-1 Helicopters, one Type-3 Helicopter.
