At 4:30 p.m. on May 2, 2012, the St. George Police Communications Center received information regarding a sexual assault. A 25-year-old female said she was jogging on the bike path and was headed south toward the tunnel that runs beneath Sunset Boulevard when she was attacked and knocked to the ground.
The victim told investigators that during this attack she was raped. The victim managed to break free from the assailant and contact a family member. The victim was then transported by this family member to Intermountain Healthcare’s Dixie Regional Medical Center for medical attention.
The victim was able to provide the following description of the suspect:
- Caucasian male
- 20-30 years of age
- Approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, medium build
- Brown or hazel eyes
- Wearing a black bandana on his head
- Wearing a black short sleeve shirt and black pants
Officers and detectives responded to DRMC and met with the victim. Patrol officers canvassed the area surrounding the bike path including the businesses and residential areas around the path. Information was obtained from the canvass and follow up is being done. Several businesses are reviewing their surveillance tapes in an attempt to locate video of the suspect.
