ST. GEORGE – St. George is home to one of the best high school girls basketball players in the nation. Amy Harris was recently named an Adidas All-American.

Only 100 girls every year get that honor and it took Harris by surprise.

“I was shocked,” she said. “I thought only girls from big cities would get picked, not someone from St. George.”

Harris is one of four Utahns to be chosen to the prestigious team.

“It’s an honor to be named and I’m just so blessed to have a great family and coaches behind me,” she said.

Harris, like most high school basketball players, is out on the AAU summer circuit right now and Harris has a very, very busy month.

“I’m in Portland right now, then on Monday we (the Salt Lake Metro Girls Basketball Team) fly to Kentucky for another tournament,” she said. “After that tournament, I will stay in Kentucky for the camp.”

Harris, who led Region 9 in scoring last season as a member of the Snow Canyon Warriors, averaged just under 17 points per game. She said she is very excited to learn at one of the best camps in the country.

“The camp is going to be a huge help. I know I’m going to learn a ton from the camp and be able to use it in my game,” she said.

As far as what college or university Harris might attend, she said just about every school in Utah is interested in her as well as some schools in California and Arizona. But Harris won’t lose sight of her dream.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to play at BYU and that’s still my dream.”

Awesome, congrats Amy! I played women’s volleyball in high school and college and it really enriched the school experience for me. I hope you do get to attend the school of your dreams 🙂 Have fun with it.
