ST. GEORGE – After a six-month closure for renovations, the Claim-Jumper Steakhouse  has re-opened with a new look and menu.

Not to be confused with the California-based Claim Jumper restaurant chain, which also sells frozen dinners in grocery stores nationwide, the Claim-Jumper Steakhouse was founded in 1973 and now has three Utah locations: Heber City, Vernal and St. George. The St. George location opened at its current site, 1110 South Bluff Street, in 1995 and has remained a popular eatery among locals and visitors. It is particularly convenient to I-15.

The steakhouse closed in November 2011 to undergo an extensive renovation of both the interior and exterior. Over the course of the next six months, all walls and floors were repaired and refinished, with new carpets installed throughout. It also saw the exciting addition of several high-definition big screen televisions in both the 170-seat main area and the 50-seat lounge.

The Claim-Jumper celebrated its grand re-opening on May 30, and presented a mix of old favorites and new cuisine. Still featured are the Claim-Jumper’s “famous” prime rib, steaks and seafood, as well as dessert. Under the direction of chef Ildefonso “Pancho” Lopez, an extensive list of Mexican dishes was added to the menu.

“(We have) a dish to satisfy any request,” said Jerry Zimmerman, general manager. “(Our) liquor license ensures a full wine and mixed drink list (in addition to) draft and bottled beers.”

A singer, songwriter and guitarist, Zimmerman also performs live music of the country genre in the lounge every Friday and Saturday evening. He is planning to incorporate more musical acts in the near future, adding to the relaxed, social atmosphere.

“(I hope that) our restaurant will serve as the go-to place for couples and families looking for consistently good steaks and seafood in a friendly, Western-themed setting,” he said.
