WASHINGTON– A new poll shows Americans overwhelmingly continue to oppose a provision of the president’s signature legislation, ObamaCare, which would require individuals to purchase health insurance. According to the United Technologies/National Journal Congressional Connection Poll, 74 percent of the American people would “like to see” the individual mandate struck down by the Supreme Court. Sen. Mike Lee reacted to the survey results today:
“The American people have overwhelmingly rejected what Barack Obama considers the signature accomplishment of his presidency. The survey shows Americans believe they have the right to make their own health care and health insurance decisions without federal mandates and other government intrusions,” said Lee, who predicted last March that the Supreme Court would strike down ObamaCare as a result of the constitutional problems associated with the individual mandate.
“Citizens across the country understand this issue is more than a debate over health insurance reform. If the individual mandate is allowed to stand, there will be few conceivable constraints on the power of the federal government, and Americans fervently oppose that outcome. Three out of four Americans are on the side of restoring constitutionally limited government and putting the power back in the hands of the people.”
The survey of 1012 adults nationwide was conducted May 31 through June 3 and has a margin of error of 3.7 percent.

The title of this article is ridiculous. MIke Lee says the individual mandate is unconstitutional, so stgnews just goes and ahead and prints that in the headline. The question of the constitutionality of the individual mandate will be decided by the Supreme Court, not Mike Lee.
The individual mandate is a Republican idea and was championed by none other than Mitt Romney in Massachusetts Massachusetts already has “Obamacare” and it is working quite well, thank you. I am tired of Mike Lee and his “my way or the highway” views. We need to make him a one-term senator.
And Stgnews needs to quit printing press releases from Mike Lee as news stories.
Karen, we appreciate the importance of identifying the source of a release. St. George News does receive releases from Utah’s senators and you will note that we do annotate the source at the close of the article, that it is submitted by the senator’s office; or, in the case of an op-ed received from a senator, we clearly indicate that also. We trust that resolves any confusion.
Where is this article labeled “op ed”? This is not journalism. It’s stenography.
The confusion is about your headline. The individual mandate has not been declared unconstitutional. A correct headline would be: “Poll overwhelmingly opposes individual mandate”. Leave the “unconstitutional” part out until the Supreme Court, and not Mike Lee, makes its determination.
Should they edit the titles of the opinion posts as well? You guys are being ridiculous. I don’t think there is any confusion about the headline. If the headline reflects the message in the article I think
It is accurate. I am glad the news site doesn’t put their feelings into the title. Just because you don’t agree with the title does not mean it doesn’t accurately portray what the article is about. be upset at Mr. Lee for the post, Not the messenger.
I agree with Karen. News is supposed to be factual. Putting an undecided issue as already decided (“unconstitutional”) in the title made the article appear biased before I read it. I started reading articles on this website out because I thought they were have fair and balanced reporting. I’m not so sure now.
Karen is right. The headline identifies the mandate as “unconstitutional.” That’s an issue yet to be decided. Mike Lee is second-guessing the Supreme Court.
